Choose how TAC processes transcripts and AI features

TAC can process transcripts and related AI features in two ways. TAC-hosted processing remains the default. Optional Cloud AI processing is available only when TAC has enabled it, your account is eligible, and any applicable team policy allows it.

TAC-hosted processing

TAC-hosted processing runs on infrastructure controlled by Talk and Comment. It remains the default for new and existing users, including people who already use automatic transcription.

TAC-hosted processing may be slower during busy periods. If optional Cloud AI is unavailable, disabled, or no longer authorized before a queued job starts, TAC uses TAC-hosted processing instead and records that fallback on the request.

Optional Cloud AI transcription

Cloud AI transcription sends the audio for that transcript request to the provider named in the consent screen and sub-processor list. It does not turn on merely because you record, upload, share, subscribe, join a team, or previously enabled automatic transcripts.

The first time an eligible user requests a transcript, TAC offers these choices when Cloud AI is available:

• Use TAC-hosted processing for this and future requests.
• Use Cloud AI once for only the current transcript.
• Optionally remember Cloud AI for future transcript requests.

The remember checkbox starts unchecked. Choosing Cloud AI transcription does not authorize cloud summaries, translations, or other text features.

Team and student controls

Cloud AI is disabled for teams by default. A team administrator must explicitly allow it before an eligible member can choose it.

Known student and under-13 accounts are not eligible for Cloud AI at launch. They continue using TAC-hosted processing where the feature is otherwise available.

Automatic transcription

Automatic transcription and the processing method are separate settings. Existing automatic-transcription users stay on TAC-hosted processing unless they explicitly choose Cloud AI for future requests.

TAC checks the current account consent and team policy again when a queued job begins. Revoking future consent or an administrator disabling the policy prevents later queued requests from using Cloud AI.

Switch back or revoke future consent

Open Settings → Transcription and select Use TAC-hosted processing. TAC records the change and uses TAC-hosted processing for later requests. A request that was already sent to a cloud provider cannot be recalled.
