Later Bells, Better Mornings
Most students in our building are at their desks by 7:35. I live close enough to walk, and I am still tired every day.
Pushing the first bell to 8:30 would help. Teenagers need more sleep than adults, and early start times take that sleep away. Schools that switched have seen fewer tardies in first period.
Some parents worry about after-school sports and jobs. That is a real problem, but it is smaller than the one we already have.
