Recording limits, retention, and keeping a copy
Check guest and monthly recording caps, recorder length limits, storage terms, and how to keep a downloaded copy of your audio.

A recording allowance counts notes, not minutes. How long a recorder runs and how long a saved note is kept are separate limits.
Guest and monthly recording allowances
| Account or plan | Recording allowance | Collections |
|---|---|---|
| Eligible guest using the extension | 5 recordings before sign-in, not a monthly allowance | Sign in to organize your Library |
| Free, signed in | 25 per calendar month | 3 |
| TAC Plus | 100 per calendar month | 10 |
| TAC Pro | No monthly cap | No collection cap |
| Active School & District team seat | No monthly cap | No collection cap |
The guest allowance is for recording-eligible anonymous users. In education setup, anonymous teachers can use it; students must sign in before uploading. Viewing-only and school recording restrictions still apply.
A guest browser recording without the extension is different: its preview stays in the tab until sign-in and an allowed role let it upload. It does not give you an anonymous share link.
For signed-in accounts with a monthly cap, usage resets for the new calendar month, not on your subscription renewal date. Open your account and look for Recordings this month and the remaining allowance.

See Pricing for current plans and prices. For subscription changes, use Billing, trials, and subscriptions.
Recording length depends on the recorder
| Where you record | Length limit |
|---|---|
| Browser setup or standalone web recorder | 60 seconds per recording |
| Recorder in the web Library (shown while your Library is empty) | 10 minutes per recording |
| Chrome extension floating recorder | No fixed length is published for this recorder. The web limits above do not apply to it. |
The two web recorder limits are the same across Free, TAC Plus, and TAC Pro. An unlimited monthly allowance does not remove a web recorder's per-note length limit.
How long saved recordings are kept
| Plan | Published storage terms |
|---|---|
| Free | Recordings are kept for at least 90 days. After that, older recordings may be removed, starting with those nobody has played recently. |
| TAC Plus and TAC Pro | Recordings are kept while you stay subscribed. After your plan ends, Free terms apply, with at least 90 days of retention after the plan ends. |
| School & District | Your signed data processing agreement (DPA) governs retention. |
Ninety days is a minimum, not a promise that recordings disappear on day 91. A sharing link depends on the recording still being available; keeping a link is not the same as keeping an audio file.
The Privacy Policy explains retention and deletion requests, and links to the canonical data-retention statement. School agreements can impose additional requirements; ask the person responsible for your school's agreement before planning an archive or deletion.
Keep an audio copy before you need it
- Sign in and open your Library. Find the note in your Library.
- Open the recording player's More options menu. Choose Download. This action is available to the owner and opens the audio source in a new tab.
- Save the audio with your browser's controls if needed. Keep it in a location your school permits for that content.
